all the latest news as and when it happens. We schedule our IDC's during
January (usually around the 8th or 9th) with an IE and (19th & 20th).
- Junior Level - There is no Junior Level.
- Standard Level - age 18 or above.
Overview:
The Instructor Development Course (IDC) is the next step beyond Divemaster and
Assistant Instructor on the route to the first level Instructor rating.
Candidates will review PADI Standards, procedures, philosophies and teaching
methods as well as hone their practical teaching ability, watermanship and diving
knowledge. After successfully completing a PADI Instructor Examination (IE),
You will take responsibility for introducing people to scuba diving through various
PADI programs and courses.
Teaching Status PADI Open Water Scuba Instructors (OWSI) may conduct the entire
range of PADI courses up to and including Divemaster (except for Specialty Course
which require specific Specialty Instructor ratings).
This is a PROFESSIONAL LEVEL qualification that entitles you to additional services
through PADI. You will be required to pay an annual subscription to keep your
status. Open Water Scuba Instructors who let their membership lapse will need
to fulfil additional requirements designated by PADI. To renew teaching status
additional requirements must be met.
Prerequisite:
Be certified as a PADI Divemaster, Assistant Instructor or a current Instructor
Member with another recreational diver training organisation.
Be at least 18 years old and fit for diving. You must submit a medical statement
signed by a physician stating you are fit for a diving. The medical statement
must be current and conducted within the past 12 months. The physician signing
the medical statement can not be the candidate.
The candidate must have been a certified diver for at least 6 months and have
completed and logged at least 60 dives showing experience in night diving, deep
diving and underwater navigation. (As documented in the individuals log book).
The candidate must also submit proof of CPR, First Aid training with in 24 months. The
Emergency First Response Course is an excellent way of gaining this qualification.
To attend an Instructor Examination (IE) The Instructor Candidate must have been
a certified diver for at least 12 months and have at least 100 logged dives.
A Standard
Learning Agreement must be reviewed and signed in addition to course paperwork.
Once registered, any session the student misses must be made up at an extra charge
or during the next regular course schedule, or forfeit remaining course fees.
Course
outline:
The course has 2 phases, a training phase and an evaluation phase. The evaluation
phase is the PADI INSTRUCTOR EXAMINATION (IE). This course is normally completed
immediately after an IDC and is conducted by an INSTRUCTOR EXAMINER appointed
by PADI

Upon successful completion of a PADI Instructor Development Course. You will
be ready to attend a PADI INSTRUCTOR EXAMINATION. These are typically offered
immediately after an IDC and are conducted by a Instructor Examiner from PADI.
